I am so saddened by this news. Vivian lived directly across the street from my family and was a very good friend to my mother. Every year for my September 5 birthday, Vivian would buy me two new dresses to start school with. My family didn’t have the money to cloth 7 children. On my communion day, she made me a floral bouquet from her garden. I remember her parties she would have for the neighborhood children. I bobbed apples for a dime. I wanted that apple and wouldn’t give up.
Vivian…I know you went straight to heaven and now with your beloved son Thomas. May you rest in peace. You are one of my best memories as a child growing up on Avenue W and Plumb 2nd Street.

As a neighbor I shall miss seeing Mrs. Gavitt on her stoop on the side of the house.
She always had a warm smile for me.
