Our words can’t describe how we feel with the news that Billy has left us as a neighbor, as a friend, and as a human being who was always ready to lend a hand, offer advice, or fight for your rights when the situation required it. For the same reason, we can’t pretend to imagine what a great emptiness this will leave in the lives of the many people of his immediate family. He was the constant navigator as well as the anchor of their ship.
As his neighbors and friends, we were incredibly blessed to have Bill literally “at our side.” Although he was younger than us in years, he was older than us in experience, and I can’t count the number of times that I sought his valuable opinion throughout the 17 years that we lived next door to one another. God grant you rest, Billy.

IN MEMORY OF A RARE FRIEND
Reading the News from your folding chair
You sat on the stoop and kept watch from there
At times you were Sheriff, at others the Mayor
But we called you our "Friend," a term that is rare
Knowing full well that Life’s not always fair
You were ready to listen and ready to share
We’ll always remember you though you’re no longer there
And commend your Soul to God with a Prayer
So, Bill, though you’re gone, we know you’re still there
And we’ll always see you in your now-empty chair.

There could never be a kinder or more wonderful neighbor, friend or brother than Bill. He truly was the "Sheriff of east 21st street". We will always remember him that way. He made us feel taken care of. He made us feel safe. He made us laugh... Oh how he made us laugh! Till we meet again, we will miss you so much. All our love, Naomi and Jim Loriega
