Obituary of Bradley Parris

Many of you who read the Shakespeare play “Julius Caesar” may remember the tribute Mark Anthony gave before he did the obituary for his friend Julius Caesar. I quote: “Citizens of Rome and fellow countrymen, we have not come to worship Caesar but to bury him.” Today, we have not come to worship our father, brother, uncle, grandfather, father-in-law, cousin, friend and relative but to bury Bradley Ulric Parris, son of the late Walter and Mahalia Parris of Lot # 6 Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, Guyana, born on the 8th day of November 1924. He was the brother of Patricia, Hyacinth, Eileen, Myrleen, Ashton and the late Egla Greaves and Dr. Vibert Parris. He attended St. Ann’s primary school and Church of Agricola and the Central High School in Georgetown. After leaving school, Ulric went on to the Technical Institution where he studied electronics in the field of radio and television repairs, also machining. After his studies, he gained employment with the Diamond Sugar Estate. In the year 1952, he left Bagotstown for the Bauxite town Mackenzie where he worked for a short period with the Alcan Bauxite Company (Demba). In the said year, Ulric returned to his home in the Village of Bagotstown where he stayed for a short period and finally left British Guyana by way of ship for London, England. Ulric arrived there after some weeks at sea and gained employment. One year later in 1953, Wyvernie joined him. Unfortunately she died in 1959. Four years later, in 1963 he met a young charming Miss Vivian Inniss and they got together and they tied that matrimonial knot. He worked for a while in Liberia, Africa as a radio and television technician and returned to London. Later he and Vivian decided to move to the USA. After arriving there, he worked at an electronics company and then the New York Transit until he retired at age 72. Ulric as he was known and called was no walk over. He was a positive man, positive in the sense he wasn’t easily convinced without proof. Many of us are like Ulric in our hearts, but we are afraid to speak our mind; afraid we may lose friends and connections. Ulric was a believer, a believer in reality. Permit me to say, there is good in all men, but there is no perfect man. Ulric left to mourn his wife Vivian, children Lynette, Ewart and Winslow; 14 Grandchildren, sisters, brother, Son in Law, Daughters in Law, friends and relatives. Ulric and Vivian knew each other 52 years. He will be missed by all who loved him. Please see SERVICE INFORMATION
