Obituary of Barbara Joy Zarek

Barbara Joy Zarek, age 67, of West Nyack, NY, passed away due to a long illness on March 15th, 2015 at Mt. Sinai Kings Highway Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Barbara Joy was born May 4th, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY to Torhild (Christiansen) and Erik Magnus Magnussen. She is predeceased by her parents and survived by her three children, Barbara (Zarek) Gould, Karl Zarek, and Thomas Zarek and her brother Erik M. Magnussen,jr., sister Kristene (Magnussen) Krober, and Brother-in-law Douglas Krober. Barbara Joy was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and was a homemaker and mother of three children. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt and her family was very important to her. Hockey was a part of her life and she loved watching the NY Rangers and her nephews play. Barbara Joy was always at local and travel games for her nephews until her illness. She was also at events for her granddaughters, including horse shows and national championships for cheerleading. Viewing is March 18 th, 2015 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm at Marine Park Funeral Home. Information can be obtained by calling (718) 339-8900. Following a service on March 19 th, 2015 (10:30am) at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Brooklyn, NY, interment will be at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, NY.
