Obituary of Patricia L. Scibilia
Patricia Louise Scibilia, 82, of Brooklyn, New York passed away in her sleep Saturday, August 29, 2015 from complications of COPD. Patricia was born at home on June 21, 1933 on 14th street in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. She and her two siblings George and Geraldine were raised there and later on 11th street. Her father George was a taxi driver and her mother Louise was a waitress in the Bush Terminal Building's executive dining room. Patricia’s parents George and Louise loved to dance and were award winning ballroom dancers. Patricia later married Bill Johnson and moved to Marine Park, Brooklyn. They later divorced and she went on to marry John Scibilia and remained in Marine Park. A young entrepreneur who started in the haircare business at 16, Patricia became an integral part of the community in Marine Park, Brooklyn where she founded and operated two salons with her sister Geraldine, The Magic Comb and The Hairpin. She was a talented colorist who had a natural eye for hair color. She created one-of-a kind dyes for celebrity clientele in New York and L.A. and in 1963 garnered national recognition when L’Oreal awarded her best hair colorist for creating the first pink pearlized blonde. Her national award winning color went on to win the worldwide competition. Later Patricia became an active Real Estate Broker, working with Fillmore Real Estate and Bright Horizons among others before opening her own Real Estate Firm, Michael & Sons. Patricia and her husband John lived a long life together and dedicated themselves to their many grand and great grandchildren. She remained married to John Scibilia who passed away in the winter of 2014. A spiritual woman of enormous generosity, many friends and acquaintances knew her as grandma -- the name she was most proud of. Patricia is survived by her children Ellen, Bill, Patricia, Susan, Annie and Dawn, as well as her grandchildren, John, Michael, Craig, Hope, Joshua, Brenda, Frieda, Joanna, Christine, Joseph, Jennifer, Jessica, Grace, Andrew, Michael John, Jason, Mikaela, Gianna, Luca, Ava, and her two siblings, George and Geraldine. We will never forget the joy you brought us and will always carry your memory in our hearts.
