Hugh J White
January 6, 1936 to February 6, 2016
Born in Brooklyn New York to wonderful parents, his father Terence was from Sligo, Ireland and mother Ann “Forde” White from St. Paul’s parish in downtown Brooklyn. Hugh was born in 1936, along with his twin sister Margaret “Peggy” amid an extensive family of Forde and White family relatives.Hugh is survived by his wife of 54 years, Catherine and five children, Kathleen (married to Steve Sargent), Margaret, Terence (married to Laurie), Hugh Jr. (Married to Patty) and Mary (Married to Jim Murphy) and an 14 amazing grandchildren. Hugh was a lifelong resident of Rockaway Point and an active member of the community.Hugh went to Chelsea High School in New York City, then served his country in the US Navy where he began his service as an operating engineer and his career in the commercial sector in building operations and engineering. Following his military service, he began working at the World’s Fair, Kings County Hospital and then 32 years as a Custodian Engineer for the Board of Education, where he managed some of the largest schools in NYC.
Arrangements are at Marine Park Funeral Home Monday, February 8th from 2 - 5 PM and 7- 9 PM
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 9th at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas More RC at Breezy Point, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family would request donations to the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department, an organization that has served him and the community that he loved so dearly.
