A piece of anyone that knew Pudgie Walsh died on Monday when he was laid to rest on a truly beautiful day. Our family, my Dad Frank in particular, was friends with Pudgie for an amazing 76-years. Watching that wonderful tribute video reminds us all that Pudgie was all in on anything he did in his life. Whether it was the FDNY, The Mariners, making people laugh and especially his beloved family and friends, he was a special person that touched countless lives. Anyone reading all the touching posts are reminded of all the different ways Pudgie helped, inspired, befriended and loved people. To Erin and John. Your Dad and Mom are together again and we are so thankful they were in our lives all these years. God Bless - The Walsh Family (Frank, Maureen, Fran, Tim and Mary Kay.)

My sincere sympathy to Erin and John. Your father was a great man. It is a comfort to know that he is now together again with your mom. A better friend and teacher one could not have. I remember the first day I walked into 108 truck on Seigel Street in 1970 from probie school and Pudgie said "Look a Whitefish". From that day on he took me under his wing and taught me how to be a good fireman. I was blessed to know him all these years. Never a dull moment.
I recently attended a firehouse alumni get together and so many FDNY members stated that if it weren't for the Pudgie Academy they would never have been on the fire department. One of a kind you were. I will miss you every day. Rest in Peace and Thanks. Stephen Ternlund

You were a Brooklyn institution, a legend in your own time, and a beloved firefighter and football coach. Some of the best times in my life were playing for you and the Mariners football team. Although Gagliardi and I disagreed with some of your third and long play calls
(as well as the other nine guys on offense) , screen right, screen left and draw, we all loved playing for you and the Mariners. Thanks for all the great times. God bless you, and may you rest in peace.

Dear Erin, John (How lucky could 2 kids get to have a DAD like the Pudge)
God bless you both and your families. Words cannot express how empty we all feel knowing that Pudge has left us. He was
THE MAN
THE LEGEND
and THE GAME
He had a memory that woudn't quit and a heart of GOLD, who gave of himself 24/7!
I feel that he is now up in the heavens above holding court with the love of his life, Catherine, right beside him and of course my husband, Kevin, is not too far away, waiting to argue with him!!
Pudge, we love you and will miss you so!!
Until we meet again, much love,
Kathy Coursey and Family

Pudgie was my coach, he was also a close friend, actually he was family. Pudgie was at my wedding. He was at the Christening of my children. He was at the First Communion of my children. Pudgie gave me the ability to play football well beyong my college years. The Mariners gave me the chance to meet people and build friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Actually what Pudgie did was build a very large family. A family called the Brooklyn Mariners. The Brooklyn Mariners have a motto: "A little bit more then a football team" Actually it was a lot more. It was a Very Large , Very Close Knit Family. Rest In Peace My Friend. See you some day on the otherside!!!

My condolences to the Walsh family on the passing of Pugie. If it was not for him and the physical conditioning and testing prep classes that he use to run I would of never achieved my life time dream of being a New York City Firefighter. I know that their are many others especially from the 1993 Firefighters Exam that had or now have careers because of Mr. Pugie Walsh. God bless you and the Walsh Family.
Sincerely,
Retired FDNY LT Peter Blaich
