I believe Ive made a comment before but I just rewatched Boatlift and I want to again send my condolences to his family and friends. He was a true and genuine human who just wanted to make sure his fellow humans were ok and safe. He is an inspiration, and his final words of "If you want to do something, do it" has resonated in my head since I saw Boatlift for the first time. He is an American Hero and just, in general, a world hero.. He was heroic, not just as an American Patriot, but as a human being. He was a beautiful soul, and I hope he rests in peace. And I hope his family is at peace/

RIP to Vincent. I am from the UK and Vincents story was told in the UK as example of resilience and bravery in the US after the attacks on 9/11. Risking his life to save others in need of evacuation. You have to be a remarkable person to be spoken about at the other side of the world.

I just watched BOATLIFT for the first time. Mr. Ardolino's words at the end of the film moved me and compelled me to "find him" on line. I was hoping to send him a personal note to let him know how his words inspired me. Since he's an Angel in heaven he already knows.
I was married on 8/25/01 and on my honeymoon on 9/11/01. We were in a foreign land and all we could do was search for updates on CNN. An unimaginable tragedy was unfolding and I was guiltily grappling with this one thought..."I just married a police officer...what happens when he runs towards danger and doesn't come back?" I now know exactly what it means:
I have one theory in life…I never want to say I should have
If I do it and I failed…I tried. If I do it and I succeed…better for me
And I tell my children the same thing…never go through life saying you should have…If you want to do something, you do it
Mr. A...I am going to do things and will make sure my son does too! No should have's. I will now celebrate you every August 25th and remember you on 9/11.
Thank you and God Bless your family...Brenda

To Mr Ardolino's Family,
I am so sorry and so sad to hear of Mr Ardolino's Passing!
Hereunder a Letter I had sent to Vincent Ardolino on September 14th 2011, thanking him for his courage and his heroism! Rest in Peace Mr Vincent Ardolino! Thank you.
Paris September 14th 2011,
Dear Mr Ardolino,
"You do what you have to do !"
Hearing your words during the 9-11 commemoration last Sunday, I immediately thought of a book I have, called "Le vol du Colibri", in english "The flight of the Hummingbird", written according to an Amer-indian legend. It’s a very, very short story but it is filled with wisdom and courage. This book has been translated from an english version but I wasn’t able to find it, so I’m sending you the french one. I translated the story for you in case you did not speak or read french hoping I have been loyal to the original version. This book has inspired me in many ways. It seems like pure common sense yet those few words expressed by Kiriki the Hummingbird are not always that easy to fulfill or live by.
My name is Lisa Milward Levesque, I’m 52 years old, I was born and raised in France and have been living in Paris for many many years. I’m american by my parents, both from Lakewood, Ohio, and French by being born here in 1959. My husband is french and we have four boys. They are also american and french and love dearly both countries. Of course we go to the States quite often and absolutely love being in New York among many other places in the country.
Until I saw the Tom Hanks Boatlift - 9/11 Ten-Year Anniversary Short Film, I had never realized what had happened that day along the piers. I was amazed to learn that nearly 500000 thousands people were able to flee South Manhattan thanks to hundreds of people like you who just listened to their hearts and did what they had to do not really knowing what was going on and what was coming next. Such an evacuation was remarkable. I was so touched and moved by what I saw and heard on my TV on Sunday and as you put it «The best was everybody helping everybody!». After watching all the ceremonies I turned off my TV and walked down to the Trocadero, right by the Eiffel Tower where the french were also commemorating this anniversary.
They had installed two small replicas of the twin towers. On them were the words «The French will never forget», the date and the names of the victims. It was simple and just so nice. I then had a thought for all of you men and women who had been out there saving lives and helping people with your boats 10 years ago.
Everytime I come back to New York and no matter what the weather is like, I take the boat to Ellis Island and spend a couple of hours there. It’s my favorite place, I’ve been there at least 10 times in my lifetime and have taken all my boys there. From the grounds of the island, I sit on the bench and look back at New York city and just admire and thank God for allowing me to do so. I then feel so proud to be American. My last trip there was a year ago, I remember being on the first boat out there in the morning. 99% of the people got off at Liberty Island so I was actually the only visitor left to get off at Ellis Island. I had the place to myself, it was incredible, a unique moment ! As I tell my boys: «Life belongs to those who get up early !!!»
In July 1963, my family and I travelled from France to the States aboard «The United States» and returned on «The France». I was quite young then and although I do not remember much of those trips I do remember one fabulous moment; it was when the ship entered the harbor and everyone on the deck started clapping, yelling and jumping up and down with joy and happiness. Their eyes had just met with the Statue of Liberty. I then new there was something fabulous to this city. Only now can I put words on that feeling.
«Never go through life saying you should have, if you want to do something, you do it!». You are so right Mr Ardolino! My husband and I stand by that and try to convince our children to have that type of attitude while facing their lives.
Thank you Mr Ardolino and all those who help regarless what may happen, you are very very brave and beautiful people to look up to and an example for our youth.
Kindest regards.
Lisa Milward Levesque

My brother, Billy, and I would like to express our condolences to the entire Ardolino family. We were just kids back then working on the Amberjack IV, but we learned some great lessons that have carried us well thought life's journey.
My office was in the World Trade Center and my company lost 295 people in 9/11. Thanks to Vinny for all the people that he helped that day, some of whom were my scared colleagues and friends who had a first row seat for this horrific tragedy.
I think life's ledger is measured in all of one's deeds and their body of work over a lifetime. Vinny's compassion and desire to help people he never knew at a time of great need showed more than just his compassion and character that day.
