Joel was truly a rockstar. He was a prince. A prince among men. I’ve known Joel for many years. We immediately bonded because we both made our living with our hands. His life was centered around his wonderful family, his desire to help people and his love for life. I will miss many things, especially our trips to Home Depot, our dinners at Peter Lugers every October, the times Mary and I went to visit, and the times Joe and Diane visited us, his Donald duck imitations, our trips up north for short vacations and just hanging out. I am so glad that DIane was Mary’s college roommate, because it gave me the opportunity to meet Joel. It was always happy times when we were together, and those memories will live forever. RIP Joel. I love you.

How to describe this wonderful man? It is rare to find a Joel Starr in this messed up world we are living in. I have been one of the lucky people to have known and loved him. I knew he loved me too. He used to hug me and tell me I was his favorite relative . I suspect he told many people that, but that’s ok. He had more than enough love in him to encompass all who knew and loved him. Ihave a story I would like to share that is so sweet. Diane a Joel spent a weekend with me.....Diane and feroza went shopping and Joel and I were alone; me at my computer and Joel asleep in the lounge chair...I went in to check on him and found my Nikki sound asleep on Joel’s. Lap. What makes this special is that Nikki is not a lapdog..even he knew there was something special about this gentle , beautiful man.

Cousin Joel was actually my cousin – in law which sounds really distant, I know, but the “in – law” description here actually has a rare legal meaning. Charna, Gabe and I all felt such an equal closeness with Joel that the law herein described is truly the law of love. Love for a singularly hilarious and wonderful guy whose generosity and huge spirit brought such warmth to our household that all I can do is thank him from the depths of my own Brooklyn heart. I know our family will continue to follow this law as we will always remember Joel’s jokes, always try to argue for all the right calls, and always try our best to root for the deep kindness he embodied.

Joel & I shared a special “cousin’s Love”. when I saw him last week I gave him a “keppy” kiss before he gave me a kiss. Loved him very much, he will be missed by all who knew him. Not a mean bone in his body. R.I.P. dear Joel.

I First Met Joel About 25 years Ago. He Was Doing Work On My New Office.
The Only Way I Can Describe Him Is Simpy To Say..."He Was A Mensch"
Joel Was Truly One Of The Nicest Person You Could Ever Have The Pleasure OF Meeting. What A Privilege To Have Known This Man. It Is So Sad To Lose Him..
But He Will Live On In Our Hearts.....

We met in Amity, about 25 years ago. I knew nothing about baseball. Everyone around us tried to help me “get it”. It was Joel who took time to explain a call or provide analysis in words I could understand and with a big supportive smile.
A real sweet nice wonderful guy!

Our dear cousin Joel, the quiet man firmly rooted to the earth. One who played by the rules; worked hard, built a fine family and beyond. A true mensch always humble with a glow of nobility. Joel had the greatest gift of all...to inspire love in everyone who knew him. Everytime I saw him, I couldn't help but hug and kiss him. Then again, who didn't? Cousin Joel, I hope you felt pride every day of your life. You knew what was important and knew how to do it. Being a life long Yankee fan
was just the cherry on top. You're forever in our hearts

I first fell in love with Joel 38 years ago when Diane and I reconnected after a few years and I called her and Joel answered. Diane wasn’t home, but Joel and I talked and laughed for 40 minutes. It felt like we had known each other for years. His graciousness, warmth, and humor exuded from our conversation and I sensed at that moment that we would friends for life. How right I was!
I’ve heard that genuine friendships are founded on a shared vision—-the view that our lives are somewhat better because certain people are part of them. Joel and Diane are those certain people, and I will be forever grateful for the time I spent with my dear Joel Starr.

A true STARR and real mensch in every sense.
Always looking to help and give sound advice on many things
His sense of humor remained until the very end.
On my last encounter with him in my office I could see he was suffering but tried not to exhibit it.
When I asked him how he feels, his answer to me was with my hands.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
