Beloved husband of 32 years to Eleanor A. Caufield

Beloved Brother to Lawrence, JoAnne (sister in law), Raymond, Clare (sister in law), Patricia and Marilyn with many loving nieces and nephews.

James (Jim, Jimmy) was the oldest of five children, born to Eleanor and James Caufield Sr. of Brooklyn, NY. Although he took his responsibilities as a big brother very seriously, he never lost his sense of playfulness and love of simple pleasures. Jim enjoyed music and sports and could often be found playing his guitar, indulging in a game of tennis, or braving the elements to pursue his love of fishing.  His strong faith and devotion to the Catholic Church complemented his deep love for his wife and family.

Jim was a strong minded man whose loyalty and optimism endeared him to his friends and family. It was often said of Jim that he “saw the glass half full” in that he would choose to focus on the positive rather than the negative.  He rarely complained, always saw the good in people, and was vastly content with his lot in life. It would never occur to Jim to ask for more than he had, as he viewed himself as lucky...lucky in his family, lucky in his friends, lucky to be living the life he had. 

Jim approached life with an open heart and mind. He was not a person who would judge others, or find fault.  Rather, he was an optimist, who would see the best in people, in situations, in the hand that he was dealt.  Jim had the rare ability to find joy and satisfaction in what he already possessed, and did not yearn for life to be different than it was. These qualities served to make Jim a good husband, brother, and friend to those who meant the most to him. He will be sorely missed.
