My sweet big sister Denise. It has taken all this time for me, for my heart to somewhat heal. I didn't know how I would go on living without you by my side. Thanks for the happy memories and the love we shared as baby sister and big sister. You were the best sister anyone could have ever dreamed of having. I LOVE YOU - Forever in My Heart Cecile Charon Dolan

I met Denise in 1980 at Katharine Gibbs School, in Manhattan. Her, Phyllis, and I became fast friends, and we share many fond/fun memories of our college days! Although, I have lived in Florida for many years, and we didn't see each other often, when we did speak or get together it was as if time never passed. Across the miles we prayed for each other, encouraged for each other during trying times, and celebrated life's joys and successes. Denise you will always hold a special love in my heart! See you in heaven someday, my dear friend!

Denise was a longtime coworker at the UFT. She was always upbeat, fun, generous mischievous and always had a beautiful smile waiting for you. She was also down-to-earth, had a great sense of humor and was someone you could talk to about what might be troubling you— that was part of her generosity. Denise was such a life-force it's hard to imagine her gone. Her spirit and energy will be with all of us who had the privilege of knowing her. She also lives on in the hearts of her family and loved ones. My condolences.

Dear Koster ,Lombardo and Charon families,
Denise’s passing has left a void in my heart. She was the most loving, warm, smiling friend a girl could ask for. We enjoyed many rounds of golf together and always shared loads of laughter. I loved spending time at chapter leader weekends with Denise sharing stories of our children and UFT work experiences. Please know how sorry I am that I cannot be present In person to express my condolences. I will miss her and will remember her always. May her memory be for a blessing!

Dear Koster family,
I’m so sorry to hear of Denise’s passing. She was a long-term special friend of mine. Over the years, we discussed personal matters, union matters, our trips to DR and of course, your job opportunity at 226, Kurt. I think of all of you during this sad time. Please know that if I were in NY, I’d be there to express my thoughts in person.

My friend Denise Charon Koster always warm and caring; friendly and forgiving; fabulous and fun. Our friendship of 39 years began at business school where we both took evening classes Monday thru Thursdays. We worked during the day, took classes at night, and had the best social life after class! From Windows on the World to the Red Parrot to Charlie Browns in Grand Central. Hanging out in every happening club in the city while remaining on the honor roll. When she married in 1986, I was pregnant with my son Russell, and shortly thereafter she conceived her first child, Kurt. We were overjoyed. Moms together. She graciously accepted the role of being godmother to my son - the best godmother ever! She was always present, always loving, always there. As our children grew so did our friendship. In 1989, I began working at the teachers union, thanks to Denise who highly recommended me, which meant more time for us to spend together at lunch time, job events, activities, and of course, afterwork socials. Everything was happening around Union Square in the 90s - the best restaurants, dance clubs, movie theatres - two moms who loved their children who also loved good food! As our children matured, we branched out, traveling to the Caribbean to soft sand, blue waters, and the sweet smell of coconut palm trees with our kids - best vacations ever! We loved the beach! Waking up early to pray and meditate on the beach. Staying on the beach all day watching the waves, bathing in the sea, participating in the activities. No matter how HOT it got! Denise would join the
entertainment teams to do the Electric Cha-Cha! She Participated in the "Miss Flamenco" contest - twice - in Punta Cana where she was a winner out of a dozen or so other contestents - (well, I did write earlier that she was fabulous didn't I?) Plus her son Keith and her godson Russ were two of the three judges and Kurt and I did all the cheering from the audience. What fun! We both were blessed to become grandmother's too! What a wonderful moment for Denise, and how grateful she was to be able to spend time with Luca, watch him grow, and to meet Isabelle. A few years ago, I returned to work in lower Manhattan, a few blocks from her office. We would meet up to go to Battery Park. Walk, talk and sit for awhile. Enjoying the tourist, the water, and our years of friendship. a Early Friday morning, I was honored to be present praying with family and friends when Denise transitioned from here to heaven! On to glory my friend - I'll be missing you.
Thank you for four decades of love

I met DENISE shortly after her graduation from High School in Brooklyn. She was always a smiling and accommodating person. Her mother MILSA was the paraprofessional representative and a delegate to NYSUT/AFT from District 20 when I was the DR. Her work for the UFT in the Just For Fun division exposed her to thousands of UFT members and the entire staff. She was loved by all. My condolences to her children, her husband, siblings, and without a doubt to her Mother Mila and Father. She will be missed but she will always be remembered.
