Obituary of Catherine A. McGloin
Catherine A. McGloin, 94, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019 at Center of Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Catherine resided in Brooklyn, New York for 85 years before moving to Fanwood, New Jersey. She was the youngest child of Catherine and Dennis Callahan and beloved sister of John Dougherty and George Doherty and Michael Callahan. Kay attended Girl's Commercial High School and became a switchboard operator. She met the love of her life, James M. McGloin, her husband of 50 years on the Brooklyn Manhattan transit and they married shortly thereafter. The young couple bought a rowhouse in Marine Park where they raised their two beautiful and talented daughters, Catherine and Alice. Kay was a devoted Roman Catholic active in parish affairs and the rosary society, serving as president. Kay worked as a retail supervisor at Abraham & Strauss and Alexander's. Her most cherished role in life was "Nana" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kay will be remembered for her uncanny ability to choose the perfect Hallmark card (from her extensive collection) for any and all occasions for family, neighbors, friends, pets and always signing them with love and prayers. She was a beautiful, intelligent and wonderful woman with striking red hair (#108) and all of the cousins and their children treasured the time they spent in her kitchen and her warm hospitality. Survivors include her daughters, Catherine and husband, Richard Kujawa of Westfield, New Jersey and Alice and husband, Michael Lilly of Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren Richard and wife Kim, Catherine and husband Jay, Anne and Dennis and great grandchildren Dillon, Catherine, Karissa, Emily, Aidan, Ryan and Nathan.
Reposing Saturday, April 20 from 1:00 - 4:00 PM and Sunday, April 21 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home,3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 AM on Monday, April 22 at Our Lady Help Of Christians R.C. Church, 1315 East 28th Street, Brooklyn, NY.
Burial to follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale.
