Obituary of Francis J. McAneney

Francis “Frank” Joseph McAneney, 83, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 10, 2019 at his home. The Wake will be held on Friday, June 14 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, NY 11234. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:45 AM on Saturday, June 15 at Good Shepherd R.C. Church, 1950 Batchelder Street, Brooklyn, NY. Burial to immediately follow at St. Charles/Resurrection Cemeteries, 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.

Frank was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Myrna (Glickman) McAneney. Their relationship was loving and special beyond words. Frank is survived by Myrna’s sister Harriet Schwartz of Delray Beach, FL,and her children whom he loved dearly, Larry (Cheryl) Schwartz of New City, NY, Bruce (Amy) Schwartz of New Windsor, NY and Steven (Marilyn) Schwartz of Catonville, MD. Frank also had great affection for his grand-nephews Michael (Jemma), Robbie, Daniel, Aaron (Melissa) and Jason. Frank is also survived by his loving and dedicated partner Patricia D. Paladino, her children Michael C. Merritt (Suzan) of Stroudsburg, PA and Tina R. Lennon of Sarasota, FL. He was an honorary grandpa to Emily, Jake and Isabel and was enamored with the title.

Frank graduated St. Teresa of Avila grammar school and as a member of their Alumni Association enjoyed many reunions with friends from his youth and neighborhood.

He received an honorable discharge for the United States Army. Frank was extremely patriotic and proudly flew our flag daily at his home. He received veteran recognition with Citations from both the New York State Assembly and the New York City Council “In Gratitude for his Dedicated Service To the Defense of our Country”.

For 29 years Frank was employed by the United States Department of Justice Immigration and Naturalization Service in an elite unit. His high clearance allowed him to accompany classified documents to Washington DC.

Frank was extremely well liked by his neighbors and friends, and thought of as a kind, caring, upbeat, and considerate, gentleman. He was an avid reader, a fisherman, and a great fan of the NY Mets. His passion was in his running. As “the running man” he was a member of the New York Road Runners Club, the Prospect Park Track Club and honored as their “Male Racer of the Year” in 2000. He also ran as a member of the Buckley’s Shamrock Club. He won 100’s of races in his age group all over the country and was most proud of completing the New York City Marathon in 1992 with a time of 3:45:22. He continued to run “at his own pace” for the remainder of his life.

Francis Joseph McAneney will be greatly missed by all who knew him. As in 2 Timothy 4:7, he would have said:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith.”
