My wife and I met Dennis and Mary Lu on a Jamaican vacation several years ago. We hit it off immediately and have been very close ever since, with many other holidays together and visits from the UK across the “pond” to Trout lake. Here we were made to feel like part of their extended family.
Dennis was a formidable man with great strength, generosity and compassion for all the World. He was my brother from another mother and will be sorely missed but never forgotten by me and my wife Margaret.
May our dear friend rest in peace.

If there was ever anyone born to be a cop it was Dennis. I had the pleasure of working with him when he first graduated the academy. Right from the start, it was clear that he had the right balance of tenacity, personality, and compassion to make a well-rounded cop. Not a shy man was Dennis! He knew how to talk to people and knew how to take care of business. He was a pleasure to be around on and off duty. He met this latest challenge like you met all the other ones in his life, with tremendous courage and not in a shy way! God bless you Dennis, for your courage and what you've done for other people suffering like you did.

Dennis Murphy was one of our very best friends. I met Denny when he worked with my husband, John. I knew that as long as they were partners, I could relax, knowing that they had each other’s backs. Denny had a knack for showing up at our house-whether in Brooklyn, or in upstate New York-whenever I was cooking sauce. He would walk in and immediately bellow “Get a potato! You’re burning the sauce again!” It was a running joke with us, but all the same, he was usually right! When our son Brandon was born, Denny showed up at our house shortly after we got home, with gifts from the 61 pct. There wasn’t anyone else I would have wanted to see so soon. Both of our children grew up calling him Uncle Dennis, and believed that he was their true uncle, and in so many ways, he was. When our daughter had her Bat Mitzvah, Denny & MaryLu came from Lake George to Florida to celebrate with us. It was a short visit but meant so much to us, because Dennis & MaryLu are truly our family. Dennis used to tease Casie constantly, and she loved him for not treating her like a little girl. Our son Brandon idolized Dennis Murphy, and he could do no wrong in Brandon’s eyes. When Brandon decided to be a Dallas Police Officer and entered the Academy, Dennis said he would come to Brandon’s graduation, which will be in May of 2020. I KNOW that Dennis will be there, watching over Brandon, and beaming. To MaryLu, Sean & Brian-my very deepest condolences to you. Your husband & father was loved by so many, and will be so very missed by the McCrea family. We love you.

Dennis (Denny) Murphy was a great detective, partner and friend. We opened the 61 Robery Unit together. It was great working with a man like him. He was a great friend to me and my wife Marcia and “uncle Dennis” to my kids. We will miss you terribly
