Dan was a kind and friendly neighbor to those who knew him on Sherman Street. I have fond memories of chatting with him while he was sitting outside giving his cat, Garfield some fresh air. I spent lots of time with him over the years at various events and shared experiences with our daughters who have been “Best” friends since they were babies. I will forever be grateful to him for the kindness he showed to my parents after their home was flooded during Hurricane Sandy. Knowing Dan as I did I am certain that there are are many others who also appreciated his kindness (and sense of humor). My condolences to his entire family

VINNIE AND BERNIE FROST posted a condolence

A few years ago, Danny and Martha spent an overnight with Bernie and me in Toms River, on their way to visit other friends in the Washington area. Dan and I were up before the ladies and we had some alone time for the first time in more than forty five years. I was telling him how much I loved the comic in him. Dan replied that he loved to make people laugh since he was a kid. However, he confessed, that it did not come naturally. He had to work at it and sometimes it was a very heavy burden. In order to make us happy, he had to suffer. How Christlike!

I knew Danny from Sherman Street and went to Holy Name School with the Sisters of St. Joseph. Danny was taught by the Irish Christian Brothers. It was a fun neighborhood and parish. Danny was looked up to by all of us. He was good-humored and he always showed respect to everyone. He will be missed by those of us who have reconnected after college and work. God Speed, Danny until we meet again.

In the twenty years we've been next door, Dan was as great a neighbor as we could have hoped to have. We will miss him greatly, and our memories of him will last a lifetime. Our deepest sympathies to Martha and the family.

Dan and Martha and I connected many years ago while working for social justice issues in Bed Stuy. We connected again years later when out daughters attended Genesis and we were both in the same car pool. I am so sad to hear about his passing and will continue to work for the issues important to him.

Danny was one of a kind, he had an infectious laugh, a twinkle in his eye, and a smile to melt your heart. His Irish wit was top notch and he was a great story teller! His kindness, love, friendship will be treasured always. My life has been so enriched for having known him and I'm honored to have been his friend.

It is with great sadness that I heard of Danny’s passing. We grew up together on Sherman, me at 4 Sherman, Dan at 15 and Jimmy O’Dea at 44 Sherman. We went to Holy Name grammar school together and remained close friends for all these years. Even though we each had our separate lives the connection to the neighborhood and our Holy Name buddies always was there. We were always part of the neighborhood and Holy Name. I am going to miss you Danny. Please pave the way for us with the good lord, you always seemed to have a special connection with him.
