My mom taught me by example. The most important lessons were these... be there for others when they need help if you can, exercise kindness even when it’s hard to do, love a person when they are at their most unloveable, and always remember “there but for the grace of God go I”.
I’ll always love you mom!
Love,
Denise (the fresh one )

The Matron of East 22nd Street is now with her beloved husband Jack, both in Gods hands.
A Mother, Grandmother, Business Woman, Advisor in all matters to any and all who could seek her counsel and also to those who would not.
Growing up Jo was instrumental in all aspects of my life .
I am forever grateful for her kindness, compassion and understanding that she conveyed to my family and to my husband Stephen.
I am sure by now she has directed Jack as to which chores he needs to accomplish as they are together forever.
May God bless them and keep them.

Grandma Jo was truly a unique and beautiful person. She was intelligent and unapologetic about her confidence in many matters. Although she was firm, she was very loving and everyone she met was treated with respect. Family was also extremely important to my grandmother. I will miss the gathering's at her home eating and talking late into the night, as well as her routine check-in's to make sure that I was doing alright. Many times those calls came at opportune moments where her sage advice proved to be invaluable. I will cherish the times we had together grandma. I love and miss you already.

To my beautiful Great Aunt Jo,
We will never forget all the wonderful memories of past Christmas’s and special days celebrated at your home with delicious food and great company. You always were the best and most generous host to us showering us with any food that was in the fridge and offering to make anything we wanted until we couldn’t eat anymore. You showed us so much love and support in so many ways as if we were your own grandchildren and for that I am forever grateful. I always felt a genuine care in your heart for whatever we were going through no matter what it was and will always cherish that. Thank you for bringing the family together and allowing us to have those memories together. You will always be in all of our hearts. I love you.

Grandma Jo was a truly an amazing person. She loved unconditionally, and did not give up on those around her. If someone was in need, and she could help, she would. I will always remember the summers in Breezy, filled with food, love, and laughter. Grandma always had words of encouragement when you needed them, and advice for any situation you may have found yourself in. She would compliment and flatter you for anything from your clothes, to the way the back of your neck looked. I once told her how much I liked her gold St. Anthony necklace, and in that very moment, she took it off her neck and put it around mine. She loved her family with all of her heart, and she will be missed by us all. My memories of her are abundant, and for that I am truly grateful. I love you GMa. - Stephen

Grandma Jo always had a genuine interest in what I was doing in my life even when I lived far away and didn’t visit as often as I would have liked. She loved teaching me to cook even when I was less excited about cooking (I now enjoy cooking) and trying to convince me not to surf because of the sharks. I truly enjoyed spending time with her and really getting to know her as I got older and spent more time on the east coast (eventually moving here). Her life was truly impressive and I hope she’s resting peacefully now and smiling down at all of the people’s lives she touched.

I will always remember the bird in the cage. Thinking it was real. Aunt Jo told me it was real, to me it was. I told her i felt sad because it was such a small cage. She said don't worry because it was happy there. I will always remember how much a little imagination and allot of love can mean. My aunt Jo had a smile that could light up the world, and a heart to match.

You loved us completely, enriching our lives through passionate discussions on everything from the meaning of life to the necessity of sound investments and ample insurance. You relished a good debate, although it was always clear from the beginning who would win! As we mourn your death, we continue to appreciate how you positively influenced our lives and those of many others. You fostered a sense of belonging through joyous family gatherings with delicious, bountiful meals and great music. You demonstrated sterling expressions of courage and compassion. You provided carefree summers at Breezy Point where you welcomed everyone. We all love imperfectly. But the loss of a loved one gives meaning to our lives, helping us reflect on our aspirations, achievements and blessings. Richard and I will keep this thought alive in our prayers as we continue to love you forever. With all our love, Joanne and Richard

To My Dear Aunt Jo and Second Mom. You helped your sister by taking care of me the first two weeks of life and never stopped. Our disagreements where always with love. I knew you always had my best interest at heart. I know you respected my spunky disposition because you were just as spirited. I pray you will always watch over me and guide me from heaven. Happy Valentine's Day in heaven to you and Uncle Jack. Love Always Rosie

Remember When
You walked me to school
Sang a song along the way
Dressed me ‘classy’ to match my ‘sassy’ twin cousin
Helped me grow with food and thought
Dared to care through good days and rough rides
Love through blood and deeds, who can ask for more
REMEMBER WHEN, REMEMBER NOW,REMEMBER ALWAYS!
MY AUNTJO
Your loving niece , Susan (with Alphonso’s green eyes)

I loved and continue to love Jo for so many reasons, including the way she grabbed life with her own unstoppable energy and enthusiasm. She was loving, generous and caring towards family and friends, as we experienced on many occasions. She expressed her affection in practical and helpful ways that impacted our lives so positively. We continue to treasure the spontaneous gifts from her of crystal wine glasses, china, linens and perfectly-sized clothing! We have photos of Courtney at age 8 wearing a blue-flowered, ruffled sundress that Jo designed and made herself! Jo had superb integrity and courage. I think of Jo and Jack as true examples of the "Greatest Generation." They occupied their places in that generation in the most profound way.

I loved my Aunt Jo and have so many wonderful memories of her. She fed us (THE way Italians show love), and, as my brother said, she listened. She made us kids feel special. She never batted an eye when I ordered tomato juice and hot cocoa at the diner! Sending so many hugs to my Casino and Dorogoff family.

In another era, Aunt Jo would perhaps have been a litigator, and not just in order to have a career, but because she loved to engage with someone with an opposing view, using logic, questioning, and humor. Beyond a skill of elocution, she also had an innate elegance. She could have had just a passing or polite interest in her sister's grandchildren, but instead she was fully engaged with us, wondering what ideas were in our still-forming minds. She was very loving with us and it was appreciated.
