I was one of Professor McCarthy's students at St John's in the early 2000s. Professor McCarthy is the reason I now work in advertising after taking his class. He was a professor that knew how to connect with his students deeply and dare I say, he made us look forward to his classes. Personally, Professor McCarthy really took time to give advice to an ambitious student who still couldn't figure out "what she wanted to do after graduation." I credit him to being the first person to inspire me to become the advertising sales exec I am today...literally (he called it precisely which at the time I shot down lol). I was actually looking him up to send a note to let him know how much he impacted me and am heartbroken to learn of his passing.
He saw his students. He cared for his students. Always with a wise story that was sure to make you laugh throughout. He was an example of care, wisdom and fun all being able to live in the same space. And if the 3 hours a week I spent with him in the classroom for a couple semesters is any indication of the man he was day to day, the family was blessed, as was I to have him as a professor.
Peace and blessings to the family
Best,
Samantha J.

Dear Louise, my name is Bob Magna and I was one of the guys attached at the hip to Thom when we served in the Reserves. We were at basic training together and during our Signal Training at Fort Gordon. We were always together with Mickey Mahoney, Brian O’Leary as well. I live in Irvine, CA now for 26 yrs and just by coincidence, I recently spoke to another of my friends who grew up in Breezy and learned of Thom’s passing. His name is Mike McGoorty. About 50 yrs have passed, but I still remember the good times we shared. My deepest condolences on the loss of a person with whom I spent such an important part of my life.

Hi All. I remember Tom as a fellow Stanner (Archbiship Molloy HS) and as a regular at the Sugarbowl. We had many interesting discussions during the mid/late Sixties when the political scene was in such turmoil. I also knew Thom's brother Bobby (another Stanner) and their big brother Jack during these formative years. Please accept my sincere condolences. Jack Minett, Port Washington, NY.

I was so sorry to hear of Thom’s passing. He was a good man and a great friend to so many, but especially to my family. He will be sorely missed and remembered for his big smile, outgoing personality and his kindness. I can only imagine the welcoming committee waiting for him. What a party that must be.
My thoughts and prayers are with Louise and the McCarthy family. Rest In Peace Thom
