Obituary of Marie Monaco
Mary "Marie" Monaco. 92, died at her Brooklyn home early Monday morning, October 12. 2020, in the company of her beloved son and caretaker John Monaco. Born in Brooklyn, October 6, 1928, Mary (then Mary Nespica) lived her whole life in Brooklyn, the city that she loved. There, she met and married her husband, Santo Monaco, with whom she lived for almost 50 years until his passing in July 1997 from cancer.
Mary was an avid reader, loved to do crossword puzzles, and was, as she termed herself, a real "movie buff." Mary also was a wonderful cook and much enjoyed sharing great meals with family and friends. Mary had a very kind heart, especially when it came to children and animals. She always found a way to donate to charities that helped kids or animals in need. She also much enjoyed watching the antics of the kitties in her backyard, which she and son John cared for. Mary is survived by her son John Monaco (Brooklyn); daughter Cindy Monaco (Fultonham, NY); son Joseph Monaco (Brooklyn); Joseph's wife, daughter-in-law , Joanne Monaco; her step-grandchildren Anthony and Nicole Hidalgo; and her beloved cat Gray.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn.
Given Mary's love of both children and animals, those wishing to remember her in a special way are asked to donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital (www.stjude.org) or the ASPCA (www.aspca.org).
Mary lived a rich and full life and was very blessed. Even at 92, she was mentally sharp as a tack and able-bodied. With the care of her loving son John, Mary was able to live her life as she chose, in her own home, making her own decisions. She was much loved by her family and friends. Mary will be missed, but never forgotten.
