We miss you, dear Sophie. You were a wonderful neighbor and friend and faithful parishioner. Your love and devotion for your family was unequaled. You spent your time serving God through the many people whose lives you touched, especially in your generous volunteer work with the blind and in our parish. You and I shared a devotion to St. Anthony, and every year on his feast day of June 13, you would go up to St. Francis Church on W. 31st Street to make a donation for the little loaves of "St. Anthony's Bread" which we would find hanging on our doorknob with a little note. You showered us and your other neighbors with all of your homemade goodies, especially your oatmeal cookies, cranberry bread (I have the recipe written in your own hand which I will cherish always) and your Christmas cookies. I loved walking around the neighborhood with you after church; to the bank, to the produce vendor, to the shoemaker; always enjoying your pithy little quips along the way. I especially loved listening to the stories of your youth and the time just always seemed to fly. My favorite memory was when you came to visit me in the hospital on my birthday. You were always putting others first. You were a blessing in our lives. Eternal rest be upon you and all your loved ones with whom you are now reunited. Godspeed Sophie, we love you always. I just found out of the passing of Mrs. Burns . Please accept my sincere condolences Bobby, Jimmy, Anthony and Joey. I loved your mom as did my entire family on East 59th Street. She was the sweetest lady, always with a smile and kind word. I can still taste her oatmeal raisin cookies delivered on a paper plate to our door. May you all find solace with the memories. Rest In Peace Mrs. Burns. Love Mary Alice , Joseph and Marty Canning
