God gave me Love.
Those are the words that Jonathan often said to me throughout our 32 years together.
I truly believe that, from the very beginning, God had plans for us.
For those who didn’t know, when Jonathan first asked me out for a date, I turned him down as I was still dating someone else. But God had plans for us.
It was several months later, when we were both walking down the train station stairs that we met up again. As we walked down Kings Highway talking, he asked if I was still in that other relationship. When I said no, he said he’d call me. I asked if he still had my phone number, he casually said “I may have it somewhere” knowing well he did as he called me a few days later. We went on happily with our lives, dating, marrying, and enjoying our time together with our families and friends.
Then September 11th happened. Days, months after, I often wondered why I was still here and sadly so many others weren’t. I didn’t know it then, but God still had plans for us.
Then in December of 2016, it became clear what God’s plans were for us. I was here to be by Jonathan’s side through his battle with brain cancer. Never did Jonathan complain about all that he had to go through during all his tests & treatments. What he did tell me every single day was that he loved me. So Jonathan was here to teach me how to be strong and show me what it was to be loved.
So, today, I’ll change Jonathan’s words a bit, for I know it’s true …… God gave US love.
Jonathan, my love, I will miss you so much …. but remember God STILL has plans for us and that is for us to see each other again one day.
My love forever, Leslie

Our condolences go out to Leslie and Jonathan‘s entire family. John was smart and funny and a great teacher of physical education. Leslie and John were great neighbors of ours on East 36 street and will be missed by all. Jonathan‘s will to live and courage is an inspiration to everybody. John you will be missed but you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace my friend. Bob, Maryann and Melanie.

I grew up around the block from Jonathan, and like to think that we were both quite instrumental in each others voyage from Child Two teenager and inevitably adulthood. We both joined a gym on Kingshighway amidst a total blackout and though we really couldn't see what the gym had to offer, we paid down our money and signed up. This was instrumental in that Jonathan found a great pleasure in working out as he got older. I also can recall sitting on a stoop on East 7th Street the night before we were to start high school and we just sat there talkin and pontificating about life in general and the big change in our lives as we entered High School. There was so much more it just cannot be written in one sitting and I will dearly miss my friend Jonathan. My only regret is that we were not more in touch with each other as we grew older. But I do know that my life is a little better because I grew up with Jonathan Nash!
