Obituary of James T. Delaney
Please take a moment to say a prayer for Jimmy Delaney. Retired NYPD Lieutenant who lost his battle with 9/11 related cancer. He fought this disease with every tool he had and was such a great inspiration to so many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jimmy was the third generation Delaney to join the NYPD and he rose to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring after 27 years. He loved the job and he loved playing shortstop for various NYPD teams, but especially Midtown South. While on the job, he completed his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice as well as a master’s degree in in fire science.
He was a quiet man with many interests. He was devoted to his parents; he was a lifelong Yankee fan as well as a Giants fan; he loved film noir, trivia and was a really good dancer.
Jimmy is survived by his sisters Jeanne (John) and Nancy (Michael), brother Bob (Christine) as well as his niece Denise (Harry) and their children Olivia and Conor and his nephew James.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jimmy's memory to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
