Adolphus Young

Obituary of Adolphus A. Young

Adolphus Alexander Young “Alex” as our family fondly referred to him was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday March 22, 2022.  He was born on August 4, 1928 in St. Catherine Parish of Jamaica West Indies. He worked on his parent’s farm for several years then moved to Kingston for work. He met, courted and later on November 25, 1959 married Monica Eugene McClune and joined her with her first daughter Helena. They together had six children.

Adolphus later worked at the University Hospital of The West Indies for several years as Grounds Maintenance Supervisor until he migrated to the New York with his children on December 22, 1976 where he joined his wife who came earlier in 1974. He then worked in New York in the Garment District for several years after.

He was a man of God and first fellowshipped at Escarpment Church of God in St. Andrew Jamaica West Indies. He joined his wife when he migrated at Lexington Church of God then decided to worship at East Flatbush Church of God. He later became a member at the Rhema Church of God.

Adolphus’ health began to steeply decline starting in 2019. He began struggling doing the things he loved most.  He could no longer go for his long walk to neighborhood stores and parks and go shopping. He was known to purchase gifts for birthdays and dining out with others.

On March 22, 2022 Adolphus called two of his children early in the morning to say he had difficulty getting dressed. His youngest son Wilfred was contacted and he went to check in on his status. He told his son that morning  “I’m ready to meet my wife”. Later that day, Wilfred returned from work  early when he was called then to find Adolphus  asleep. He discovered that he had taken his last breath that moment.

His wife Monica on March 10, 2014 and others of his family preceded him in his passing. Adolphus is survived by his children Helena, Michael, Pauline, Errol, Olivene, Pamela and Wilfred; grandchildren Jeome, Mellicia, Christopher, Dwight, Nickeema, William, Lauren, Karissa, Jahsent, Shayna, Ameer, Markel, David, Amia, Elizabeth, Rolanda, Cashmere, Abraham, Kiara, Japhhel, Christopher and great-grandchildren Kayla, Charles, Colette Christian, Brooklyn, Tatum, Darius, Nala, Elianna; relatives and friends.

Adolphus will always be loved and missed dearly by many, and not just those in his family. In his humility he was a larger than life figure, with a heart pure and kind. Everyone who crossed his path benefitted from his generosity of spirit and love.

We will always love, miss and cherish your memories Alex. The universe is missing your absence.
