It’s one year today , that Michele has gone home .HSFI was were we met , I came on board in 1986 , and retired in 2019. I recall vividly, she joined us with both feet planted and on the movie. She was also darn cute and funny and always willing to assist. When she went on to FIT, I knew she had a lot to offer them but , she constantly, reached back to Fashion H. S . offering her expertise and selflessness. She will always be remembered as a kind soul.

Michele was one of the best people I have ever met in my life. She loved being a mother & spoke about her wonderful Daughter & Husband in so many conversations. She’d often tell me about the cool technology driven projects they would do together since we both had an interest in wearables and technology. She was a light of positivity & was an incredible communicator who could bring calm to any situation. I looked up to her for years, she was responsible for placing me in precollege fashion design classes more than 2 decades ago, and then 6 or 7 years ago gave me the opportunity to start teaching precollege classes. When I had a baby last year she sent me one of the kindest notes. I wish I was able to tell her how much she meant to me, and how much her kindness, support, and encouragement meant to me. She was truly a light. I wish my deepest condolences to her family, she loved them so much. Rest in Peace Michele, I will miss you so much. You are the mom & professional that I strive to be.

You will be truly missed! You were a GREAT teacher, my favorite HS teacher! You gave me my first job as your assistant my senior year at HSFI in 1999. You would mock me when I pushed up my glasses during class and I was the only one that realized what you were doing. You showed me to see things through a new lense (no pun intended). When I found out I was having a work(DOE) meeting at FIT, I was so excited cause I would be able to see you. We hugged & you said omg my baby is all grown up when you saw me. I remember telling you that my daughter wanted to go to HSFI because of all the stories I would tell her about you and my HSFI years. My daughter was looking forward to meeting you next week when she goes to her pre college classes, but you will always live on in my heart & my memories. Thank you til we meet again! I had the privilege of working with Michele at FIT in both precollege and continuing education. She was such an amazing boss, mentor, and friend. She could tackle any problem and did it with her signature Nagel flair. It is hard to believe that someone with such energy is gone so quickly and so soon. She was a bright candle that burned out too soon. I will miss her funny stories and sharp wit. There were so many laughs over the years at FIT. You often hear 'only in NY' but we also had 'only at FIT' for the many antics that came along with working with middle and high school students. I will never forget Michele and I feel so lucky to have known her. She was one of a kind.
My condolences to all of her family, especially to Tom and Sam. She loved you both so much and talked about you constantly. You were definitely the pride and joy of her life.

I’m stricken with sadness all the sudden reading this. Literally, I would brag about having known her when I talk about my high school years at Fashion with anyone! The first name that would pop out my mouth was hers; although the people that would hear my stories didnt know her. I would always say “she was my favorite teacher” at the end of my conversations. Ms. Nagel Bagel I would call her and she would laugh. She taught me sooo much and I admired her talent! Mrs. Nagel, you leave a very special place in my heart, the place where I have always gone to when I remember the time of my life I had the most growth; my roots. I wish I could have attended the funeral. May your soul be painting beautiful murals up in heaven! Paint me many rainbows please! My most sincere condolences to the family.

I'm in shock. I worked with Michele for 10 years, I edited videos for her Pre College program, but only with her voice because she didn't want to be on camera. I laughed so hard when she told me the most common ways pre college students injure themselves at FIT was by "sewing their finger". Her voice is forever in my brain. I remember when she was pregnant, she was so unbelievably excited and so incredibly in love with her daughter, all of the pictures and the stories. My heart breaks for beautiful Samantha and her whole family. I'm heartbroken, she was a kind and beautiful woman. Sending so much love.
After much looking, the only pictures I have are of the door to Michele's department, and a glimpse down the hall to her actual office, from 10 years ago. I'm still in shock.
