Papi, to say I follow you anywhere is an understatement. Our last trip to Turks & Caicos was the best. No-one could believe we took a chance after the hurricane went by Turks and we boarded a plane not sure of what we would find, but as always, we had a great time. We laughed, we ate, and were over served a couple of nights. Thank you for being my best friend ever. I miss you baby, till we meet again

I first met Red & Ida through my brother, Mark Davis due to our mutual love of wine. Immediately I understood how the two of them were so close. Red is Mark’s brother from another mother and they were truly the very best of friends. Red had the biggest heart, so generous and a great sense of humor. My heart breaks for Mark, Ida, Anthony and their family. There are no words to describe the pain of losing such a wonderful person. Rest in peace Red.

Red
You were more than an uncle and just under a father. You supported our family in more ways than you can imagine. You were always the life of the party and touched everyone you came in contact with in a very special way. Even as I’m writing this, I can hear your laugh or you busting my dads chops. Your banter and humor will be missed. But most of all, your love, generosity, thoughtfulness, and smile will be missed most of all.
You became a huge part of Nicole and Amelia’s lives in a short time. You made her feel like she had another uncle and for that I am truly grateful. We will certainly be sharing all of our stories of you with Amelia and she will know who you are.
Thank you for everything Redly. Rest in Paradise.

I have a million things to say, but am struggling to find the right words...
When I think of HS dances, concerts (The Tramps!), movies (Tommy), feasts, and random other places, there were Red sightings were all over Brooklyn! Seeing you on the campus of Manhattan College made me smile and think, "He goes to school here? This guy is everywhere!" Although our life as Bio major-classmates and friends began in August 1981, I feel like you were part of my HS years too! The funny moments in and out of the classroom, and the nights and Friday afternoons The Greenleaf mostly included Red!
Dating your best friend (and mine!) Jim Moriarty brought my relationship with you to a whole new level! The good times didn't end when the semesters did--Christmas break, New Year's Eve parties, bars on Flatbush Ave, and dinners at Brennan & Carr were commonplace.
The fun continued and never stopped after the college graduation parties into 20-something-life--the South Street Seaport (including air-borne clams), 1st and 3rd Thursdays in the city, time in Rockaway, visits to Philadelphia, trips to the Catskills and the rides to the Hamptons were all part of our joined memories! Jim and I got engaged and married with you there through it all...and with us into our 30s.
Soon after that, Ida officially joined the party as your girlfriend when we were all out for wings! She is truly the love of your life, your other half and walked into all our lives seamlessly! You guys got engaged and married with Jim at your side as your best man and Jenny as Ida's maid of honor. Your life with Ida included us and so many others from HIS, XHS, and Manhattan. The family kept on growing! We welcomed Victoria shortly after your wedding, and then, the other love of your life, your amazing son Anthony was born 10 months later. Your pride and joy for Anthony showed on your face and showed all of your circle a whole new side of yourself! You have been an amazing father to Junior since day 1--soccer, baseball, Mets games, vacations, constant support and unconditional love!
Uncle Redly to Victoria and Cassie (who joined our family 10 months after Anthony was born) is a special relationship that is invaluable to them! You loved them at first sight, and the feeling was mutual. The 3 had fun together, but when Terence was born, there was a new girl-boy balance of power, and another Met fan was welcomed with open arms by Redly The Godfather! Barbecues, vacations, beach days, pool days, dinner, and parties were shared and gave us special memories.
...Then came Superstorm Sandy which changed so much forever. One thing that didn't was the love and hospitality that you and Ida extended to us! You generously opened your home to us without a blink--places to sleep, warm hugs, delicious meals, and countless laughs were just what you gave us a a time when we needed them. It was a devastating time for so many in our city, but "the best 5 days" of our lives!
Our children and Anthony have you and Jim to thank for the lessons of friendship you have given them---there are photos of them at all of each other's milestones much like you and Jim. Your character, sense of humor, loyalty and strength have taught all of us sooooo much, and created a blueprint for friendship that is an irreplaceable legacy for Ida, Anthony, Jenny, Lorraine, Karen, Jim, me, my children, and all your/our friends!
You are greatly missed, immeasurably loved, and will remain in our hearts forever!
Love you dear friend,
Marie

Redly,
I've been blessed to have you as an incredible role model, uncle, and godfather, and I'll always cherish the many moments and memories I was fortunate enough to share with you. As far back as I can remember, no family party was complete without your great jokes and old stories. Your energetic bursts of laughter that accompanied these will stick with me for the rest of my life. I'll love you forever!

Red,
“Uncle” Anthony was not our blood relative, but will always be our family. Your constant presence enriched all of our lives in innumerable ways.
For over 50 years, your path in life overlapped nearly constantly with my dad’s. From Holy Innocents, to Xaverian, to Manhattan College, to TMS, and with the memories shared with your wives and children. I can picture you blasting Walking on Sunshine, driving like a maniac with my mom riding shotgun, rushing to get to the Greenleaf. Those Greenleaf glory days were relived when you and my dad visited Victoria at BC. Terence was blessed with you as his beloved godfather, and your love and care for your godson was endless.
I’m grateful for the bonus time I got to spend with you in my 7 summers working in the office at TMS. And really, I’m just grateful for all of the time I got to spend with you.
So many of our childhood memories involve the Abbene family. You took all of us in after Sandy without hesitation. You always showed up for the big events, but also the little things, too. No words can adequately describe what our Uncle Red meant to us.
You were so widely known and so deeply loved. I am blessed to have had you as my uncle and I will miss you for the rest of my life.
I love you Red,
Cassie

Anthony, Neenaw, Nee, Red, Abbene Baseball, Redly and Best Friend for over 50 years! So many names for an incredible man. Most important titles to Red are Dad, Husband, Brother, Son, Cousin, Godfather and Friend to all. Grammar School, high school, college together, and then working together for 40 years. So many hours and over a million laughs. Who flies home early from a once in a lifetime trip to Hawaii when you lose your Dad? Red does! God how my parents loved him.
Both of his parents did a fantastic job raising a man admired by so many. Their home was one of endless love, loud noises, constant laughter and incredible food at all hours of the day or night. Red was the center of our many groups of friends including our Holy Innocents crew and our Jasper buddies. You seemingly made new friends by just saying hello to people you encountered from when were young. You were smart, loyal, tenacious, and fun loving all your days. No wedding was complete until Red did his famous hand stand.
My children claim that almost all of my stories start with, "One time Red and I ----" Well, they are correct but that is because our lives are so intertwined. How many times I heard from someone I barely knew, "I know you, your Red's friend." I would like to thank you for letting me be your wing man through so much of my life.
I would like to give much thanks and my love to Ida, Anthony and Jenny for making my friend's world complete after Red and Ida fell deeply in love. Again there was a home open to all with constant laughter and love. His happiness revolved around sharing his love and time with you! Anthony - you have been a tower of strength during these terrible days and know that he has always been proud of you! Ida - your love story truly became a Perfect Union of two people!!!
As Mae West said, "You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough." You did it right RED!
Love you brother,
Jim, Marie, Victoria, Cassie and your Godson, Terence

Eulogy from 11/9/22 Funeral Mass:
Just want to take a moment and thank everyone for coming today, Red had a way of bringing people together!
My father was truly a loving husband to Mom, outstanding father to Jenny & I, caring brother to Lorraine and Karen and an amazing friend.
He was blessed with such a great group of friends that he loved like family! He always enjoyed having you over the house during the summer for BBQs or planning a night to go out to eat! He just loved to see you all together and catch up and tell some old stories!
If I may take a moment to call on those in that group of friends to please help me and my family! Please continue to share stories about him at get togethers and always share the memories you had together with him! Please never forget how much he loved you all!
My father was a loving husband; God was he was the best! He was always taking care of Mom, whatever issue it was solved in no time. He always took the best care of my mom when she was going through a flare up! Took her to all the important doctors! Nothing would stop him from taking care of her!
They traveled the world together, sharing and creating beautiful memories that will last forever! For 28 years he loved and cared for my mom, each year their love only grew more and more!!
Even though he was a great friend and a loving husband he was also the most outstanding father! I know he loved me with all his heart! He would help me with anything I needed no matter the day or time! I will miss watching and talking about the Mets with my best friend!
(Dad if you’re listening right now and not in the casino, please talk to the big man about world series next year!)
I will miss seeing him laugh and his face turning red! I will miss seeing him smile at me in his chair! I will miss watching him hug my mom and showering her with love. I will miss the wisdom he would share with me, which helped me grow and become the best version of myself! I can only pray I am able to carry on his legacy and make him proud!
Dad, please watch over mom as she needs your strength now more than ever! Please watch over your sisters, Karen and Lorraine, they will need you to watch over them always! Please watch over Jenny and guide her in everything she does! Please watch over me and continue to lead me and show me the path forward through this time and onward. I know you’re going always have my back with everything I do!
I will love you forever Dad until we meet again!

Red, words cannot describe how much you will be missed by me and my family. To say the world shines less bright without you in it is an understatement. I will always cherish the memories I have of you outeast making us manmosas, busting my dad's chops about the sub-par accommodations at the Cutchogue house, and just all around making us laugh. You never missed a special event for any of us whether it be a birthday, engagement, or Sunday dinner - we knew you would show up with Gabbiano wine & cookies from Michael's. We will all continue to reminisce on these amazing memories and to make sure that they never fade away.
I know you will be watching over us all in heaven and will always be with us.

My cousin, Anthony, was quick witted and a true master of sarcasm. He knew how to break the ice at a tense family moment or keep the party laughing with his classic expressions. He was strong as an ox, tough as a bull, but gentle as a lamb when needed. He could be counted on anytime, anywhere and had a heart of gold. He was my younger cousin, but he became like a brother to me. He was my friend, my drinking buddy, my casino partner, my contractor and repair consultant, my counselor, and at times my therapist. Most importantly, he was someone I loved dearly and trusted. Until we meet again……

I met Anthony in 2003 while he was working on a project for the company I was with. During the course of the project, we spent a lot of time together and became good friends. When I got married in 2005, Anthony and Jimbo joined in the celebration by taking me and my new bride out for lunch. He was truly happy for us. As the years progressed, we became even closer. I moved to Florida in 2015 and even though separated by distance, we kept in touch with each other. We were devastated to hear of his passing. I will miss the conversations we had and the emails and texts we exchanged with each other. He was truly a memorable person in our lives and we will miss him dearly. Nino - You met all of the challenges that God set in your path, with fortitude and good humor. You are a great example for your children and others. Now rest in the Beatific Vision of the God that created you. Till we meet again…

Words can’t express the feeling of being told the horrible news! Our hearts are broken! We love you Red, and we will always remember the great times we had. You left us with fond memories. A gem to whoever you met and always there to help in any way you could, laughed and enjoyed life. Until we meet again. Nichy, Anthony, Jenny, Karen and Lorraine, you’re in our thoughts and prayers. Stay strong, Red wouldn’t want it any other way. We love you. <3
