Obituary of Michael P. Dorto

Michael Dorto was born on February 28, 1968, in Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of the late Lorell and Salvatore Dorto, cherished brother of Christine, and treasured Uncle of Alora and Robert Rubino.

Michael graduated from the Police Academy and was assigned to the 62nd Precinct in 1992. He transferred to the Brooklyn Task Force in 1993, then to the Organized Crime Control Bureau Auto Crime Division in 1997. Michael was promoted to a 3rd grade Detective in 1998 and a 2nd grade Detective in 2000. In 2004, Michael transferred to the Major Case Squad and was promoted to 1st grade Detective in 2006. 

Michael received a total of 20 department medals throughout his career. Eighteen medals for Excellent Police Duty and two medals for Meritorious Police Duty. A proud and committed officer and detective, Michael retired from the New York Police Department in 2017. In 2017, he went on to join Con Edison, where he continued his career as a dedicated  Senior Specialist. 

Michael had a deep love and loyalty for his family and friends. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend who effortlessly left imprints on the hearts of everyone he encountered. As the meaning of his name signifies, Michael was a true “Gift from God”.

The visitation for Detective Michael P. Dorto will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on Monday, May 8, 2023, from 4:00 - 9:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 10:45 AM - the family will be arriving at the funeral home by 9:30 AM.
