Angela Miccio

Obituary of Angela Miccio

Angela Miccio, age 87, passed from our world peacefully on Thursday, August 17, 2023. Angela was born on June 16, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York. She is the adoring daughter of the late Michael and Santa LaCapria, survivors of the SS Andrea Doria sinking. Proud sister of predeceased Rocco LaCapria and Vincenza D’Anieri. Loving mother of Diane Hashem and husband Tom, Joseph Miccio and wife Lucia, and William Miccio and wife Lisa. Cherished grandmother of Brian Hashem and wife Jen, Ashley Kubik and husband John, Taylor Miccio and wife Mari, James Miccio and fiancé Kylie, Vincent Miccio Onorato and wife Kat, and Aryelle Teran. Dear and adoring great grandmother of JoJo Hashem, Axel Kubik, and Zayden Kubik. Angela, more than anything, loved and cherished being with her family.

We are very lucky to have had Angela as long as we did, and in good health all along the way. Her children and family members were with her to the end, got to talk with her while she was conscious and alert and tell her how much they love her. She was comfortable and not in any pain.

A few days earlier Angela was out hiking in the New England mountains (which she did regularly) with her son Billy and daughter-in-law Lisa, and was feeling great. She also rode her indoor bike for hours each week, and until a few years ago rode 50 to 100 miles a week outside, where she lived at her beautiful Bed & Breakfast (which she founded and ran) on 10 acres along the Black River in Plymouth, Vermont. She lived a long, full, happy, healthy, and independent life right through to the end. Angela was loved by the many people who knew her, and she never stopped making new close friends throughout her life.

Angela was a driving force in her children’s lives to always improve themselves and take worthwhile risks with great efforts in their pursuits. And she loved loved loved creative endeavors. She was not afraid to die, as she’d always made clear, but she was petrified of being dependent and a burden on her family. No one escapes the inevitable that comes with this great gift of life we have, and Angela did it on her own terms with love all around her, and she knew exactly what was happening before she finally went to sleep. Thank you for everything, Mom, Grammy, Great Grammy ("GG"), Angela. You will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, NY. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 PM with our cousin, Father Peter Gillen, officiating.

The Miccio family requests in lieu of mass cards and flowers (Angela wanted all her flowers while she was alive and could enjoy them), to make a donation in Angela’s memory to your local animal shelter, or Doctors Without Borders, causes for which she’s always had extra compassion.
