Obituary of Gerard J. Murphy
Gerard James Murphy, 68, passed away suddenly on Monday September 16, 2024. Gerard was born on June 19, 1956, and spent his entire life in Marine Park, Brooklyn. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Grade School and graduated from Xavierian High School in 1974. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local 361 for 30 years. He worked on MetroTech in downtown Brooklyn and oversaw the renovations of City Hall Park in downtown Manhattan. He also lent his ironworker expertise as a volunteer at Ground Zero in the early days after 9/11. He was the son of the late Raymond and Lucille Murphy. He was the beloved husband of Rosemary, and they enjoyed 35 years of marriage. He was the devoted father to his son Michael. He was the beloved brother of Patrick (Laura) and uncle to Ann and Claire. Beloved son-in-law to the late Francis X. and Irene A. Kraemer and brother-in-law of Mary Louise Martin (the late Thomas), Tom Kraemer (Lisa), the late Francis X. Kraemer Jr. (the late Barbara), Claire Kraemer (the late Warren Barabash), the later Kevin Kraemer, the late Joan Kraemer-Cain (Harold), and Dennis Kraemer (Linda). Beloved Uncle to 14 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews on the Kraemer side of the family.
Wake service will be on Thursday September 19, 2024 from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home. 3024 Quentin Road Brooklyn, NY 11234, 718-339-8900.
Funeral mass will be on Friday September 20, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church at 9:30 AM. 1550 Hendrickson Street Brooklyn, NY 11234.
