Obituary of Catherine Smorto
Catherine Smorto, lifelong resident of Brooklyn, NY, passed away quietly, at home at the age of 99, on September 22nd, 2024. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Charles and her oldest daughter Judith. She was one of 10 children of a very close-knit family, of which her younger sister Pauline at 98 years old, is the only surviving member. Catherine was the beloved mother of Cynthia Clauss and husband Paul of Manahawkin, NJ, and Matthew Smorto and wife Millie of Brooklyn, NY. She was especially fond of her 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Catherine was a regular communicant, Eucharistic minister, and Choir member at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic church. She had a love for and was a loyal supporter of Trail Blazer Camps, a camp dedicated to empowering youth to build values for life. She was not only a camper, camper leader, board member and volunteer, but was also a major benefactor of the camp throughout her life.
She and Charles lived a full and active life, and she delighted in the company of her family and many friends. She was a constant and reliable source of unlimited comfort and support, in every aspect of life, for anyone in need. All those who knew her instantly felt her warmth and goodness.
We will celebrate her life at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn, NY, Sunday September 29th 2-7 PM.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians church, 1315 East 28th Street, Brooklynn, NY, Monday September 30th at 9:30 AM. Burial to follow at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
