Steven Bylis

Obituary of Steven Bylis

Steven Bylis was a lifelong Brooklynite. Born and raised in Mill Basin, Steven eventually settled in Marine Park. One thing anyone knows about Steve? He was handy. His passion for automobiles began in a South Shore High School shop class. At age 24, he went on to be the youngest ever shop foreman at a Mercedes-Benz USA dealership. Later, he was promoted to service manager and showcased the managerial ability that went along with his technical aptitude. Cars were central in his personal life as well. Watching him tinker with his 1969 Camaro was like observing an artist painting: supreme patience, meticulous detail, and a beautiful finished product.

Steve was active with the Navy Seabees for twenty years, completing tours in Kuwait and Afghanistan. He achieved the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He was a lifelong Yankee fan, having season or half-season tickets for many years. He loved history and the outdoors. He enjoyed NASCAR races and walking his dog, Quentin. He showed his care for his family and friends through acts of service.

Steven leaves behind his wife, Annmarie, two children, Patrick and Kathryn, brother Paul, sisters-in-law Maureen, Kathy, and Betsy, mother-in-law Mary, brothers-in-law Joseph and Paul, nephews Joseph, Michael, and Matthew, and niece Elaine. He is predeceased by his niece, Elizabeth. We will miss him
