Obituary of Peter Prestininzi

Peter Prestininzi, Jr., age 80, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on Wednesday, April 29th, 2015, in New York, NY. Funeral services took place on Friday, May 1st, at the Marine Park Funeral Home. A Mass was held on Saturday, May 2nd, at Our Lady Help of Christians Roman Catholic Church. A Military honor service will be held on Friday, May 8th, at which time his remains and a Military Flag will be presented to his family. Pete, as he was known, was born on January 31st, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY, to Peter Prestininzi, Sr. and Assunta (Sue) Mettica Prestininzi. He had three siblings, Rose, Frank and Sue Ann, whom he loved, and was loved by, very much. He graduated from Boys High and had some college experience at Brooklyn College. It was at Brooklyn College that he first met his true love, Mary Iacono, at a Newman Club meeting. They were married on May 22nd, 1960, and had two daughters, Carla and LeeAnne, who loved him dearly. He served in the Army Reserves for several years and has always been very proud of his patriotic duties. Pete worked for the United States Post Office for many years, working his way up to supervisory positions. He enjoyed photography, playing cards, trivia games and puzzle books. He also enjoyed favorite foods like raviolis and cannolis with a nice wine. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. Pete's outgoing personality and ability to make people feel comfortable, his involvement in civic associations and willingness to help his neighbors earned him the affectionate title "The Mayor", from family and friends. As a child, Pete vacationed often in West Virginia, where his Mother and Aunts were born and grew up. Over the years, he traveled to West Virginia with his family to attend reunions, with family members coming from all over the country meeting to share food, music, good times and family memories. He loved West Virginia, especially the Black Waterfalls natural attraction. He also loved county music, especially John Denver's "Almost Heaven, West Virginia", an adopted "family anthem". Pete was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend. And, while his passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who loved him, the wonderful memories of the ways in which he touched everyone's lives will keep him close to those he left behind. Pete will be missed dearly and his family will always love, respect and honor him, keeping his memory alive.
