Obituary of Joan Gillespie

Joan Gillespie, age 87, passed away surrounded by her loving family on April 10, 2019. Joan was born on September 6, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York. She is the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine Quinn. Joan was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved husband John. Joan is the loving mother of Catherine (Richard) Fattorusso, Patricia Gillespie, and Maura (Freddy) Kahn. She is the cherished grandmother of John Fattorusso, Andrew Fattorusso, Richard Fattorusso, Jenna Kahn, Brianna Kahn and Ryan Kahn, and the proud great grandmother of Quinn and Stella. She is the dear sister of Tommy Quinn and the late Peggy Duncan.

Joan was a devote Catholic, who often prayed the rosary and found great comfort in the symbol of our Blessed Mother's Miraculous Medal. Joan was an influential supporter of the construction of St. Columba Roman Catholic Church. In her younger years, Joan enjoyed riding her bicycle through the neighborhood, often putting her grocery bags on the handlebars to bring them home. 

The visitation for Joan Gillespie will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home on Thursday from 7:00 - 9:00 PM and Friday from 2:00 - 5:00 PM & 7:00 - 9:00 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Columba Roman Catholic Church on Saturday April 13, 2019 at 10:00 AM - the family will be meeting at the funeral home by 8:30 AM. The Committal Service will immediately follow the Funeral Mass at Resurrection Cemetery in Staten Island.
